After finishing 6th the previous season, Spurs entered the UEFA Europa League at the second qualifying round and ultimately reaching the Round of 16 before being eliminated. The season was also notable for Gareth Bale’s returnto North London,on a season-longloan from the Bernabeu.
In the league, Spurs started well and topped the league by mid-December howeverthe team’s form dropped after this point. It ended with Jos Mourinho losing his job in late April despiteleading the club to theLeague Cup final. Former player Ryan Mason was appointed interim head coach until the end of the season but he lost the final and Spurs finished 7th in the Premier League only managing to secure Europa Conference League football for the nest season.
